The hike to Laguna de las Tapias is a high-mountain trekking experience that takes place in the Santuario Chiquito Nature Reserve, located in the páramo de Guerrero, between the municipalities of Tausa and Pacho. This ecological route allows visitors to explore one of Cundinamarca’s most important ecosystems, renowned for its rich water sources and unique biodiversity.
Along the trail, hikers explore a network of water bodies that includes streams, wetlands, water beds and several lagoons that vary with the season. Under favorable conditions, small groups may spot up to nine lagoons, while larger groups typically see around seven. The landscape is dominated by extensive grasslands and frailejón groves, where up to six distinct species can be identified, two of which are currently endangered.
Laguna de las Tapias, located between two rock walls that give it its name, is the most iconic point of the route. This natural setting offers stunning views and an ideal space for contemplation and photographing páramo landscapes. During the hike it is also common to see páramo eagles soaring over the area, reinforcing the feeling of being in pristine, wild territory.
With an approximate distance of 7.5 to 8 kilometers and an altitude above 3,600 m a.s.l., this hike calls for respect for the environment and attention to the terrain, though it maintains a moderate technical difficulty, ideal for hikers with intermediate experience.
