The hike to Laguna de las Tapias is a high-mountain trekking experience in the Santuario Chiquito Nature Reserve, located in the Páramo de Guerrero between Tausa and Pacho. It is one of the most complete trekking Colombia routes for those looking for excursions and hikes near Bogotá centered on water, biodiversity and sustainable tourism.
The trail winds through a network of streams, wetlands and lagoons that vary by season: small groups may spot up to nine, while larger groups typically see around seven. The landscape is dominated by grasslands and frailejón groves, with up to six identifiable species, two of which are endangered.
Laguna de las Tapias, set between two rock walls that give it its name, is the most iconic point on the route: striking views, quiet contemplation and páramo eagle sightings. At 7.5 to 8 km and above 3,600 m a.s.l., it keeps a moderate technical difficulty ideal for intermediate-level hikers, accompanied throughout by a guide who shares the flora, fauna and cultural history of the Páramo de Guerrero.
